Softball: Week of 9/16-9/22
by posted 09/15/2019

Hi families!

Fall Ball Week 3 has concluded and coaches thought our team competed well (again) in our games despite playing with only 8 players! Next SUN (9/22) is our last weekend of regular season games for Fall Ball; the SUN after that (9/29) is the Fall Ball State Tournament.

  • Game 1 - In our first game against Prior Lake Blue (W 11-5), all 8 of our batters reached first base on singles (6) or walks (2); our next inning had fewer singles (3) but 7 batters reached first base before the inning was stopped (5 runs). Another great day at the plate!
  • Game 2 - Both teams played with 8 players. The loss against Hopkins Blue (L 3-4) was a heart-breaker though. Down 0-2 after 3 innings, EP stormed back during the top of the 4th, scoring 3 runs on 4 hits (7 batters); thank you Lily for a timely double to knock in the go-ahead run. I'm sure we're all disappointed in the final result, but a few girls seemed upset with how the game ended. I'm the head coach; I'll own the last play of the game- with the Hopkins' game-winning run at 3B, we had a "dropped" 3rd strike (the batter swung and missed at a ball that was in the dirt); I had Genna throw to 1B for the out and Leilly knew to throw the ball back home asap (we work on this play during practice). The girls made great throws and we were 6 inches (?) from pulling it off; it was that close! It's on me that Genna didn't hold the ball at home plate to keep the runner at 3B, but I'm proud they executed the play as well as they did. All in all, it was a wonderful, competitive game we played!

Quite a few positives from that game too
    • Genna executed an awesome pickoff at 3B in the 3nd inning; Taelyn for the tag. Genna and Taelyn picked off another 3B runner (Genna to Taelyn, back to Genna) in the 3rd.
    • Taelyn continues her hot streak in hitting, going 3 for 3. Overall on the day, she went 4 for 4 hitting, and reached first base 6 times in 6 at-bats.
    • 7 singles total, 1 double and only 3 strikeouts in game 2; the other outs (9) were balls put into the field of play (the emphasis is to always make contact and force the other team to make the play).

Our Fall Ball record stands at 3-3, with the schedule for SUN 9/22 coming out mid-week. Please continue to use the RSVP email notifications (or text) to let me know who is/isn't coming to practices or games.

  • TUE 9/17 Practice, 5:30-8:00pm, Miller 4
    • 5:30-6:00 pitchers/catchers
    • 6:00-8:00 full team practice
  • THU 9/19 Practice, 5:00-8:00pm, Miller 7
    • 5:00-6:00 pitchers/catchers; P/C will work with P/C trainers Kelsey and AnnaMarie
      • pitchers must have someone to catch for them; I've got to catch pitches for Lily while catchers work separately
    • 6:00-8:00 full team warm ups/ "scrimmage format" practice where we work on game-like conditions
  • SUN 9/22 Games, TBD (but we should be back at Miller)

I'll communicate games as soon as I'm aware of them later this week. Make sure you let all your girls know how proud you are of them, as kids and as athletes! Coach Tina and I are SO proud of their effort and attitudes yesterday.

Softball: Week of 8/26-9/8
by posted 08/26/2019

Hi families!

It was GREAT to see your daughters compete in our games yesterday! Coaches thought the girls played well (it's their first time playing together as a team), and for the younger girls it's really about adjusting to the speed and power of 12U gameplay. Final scores: Bloomington (W) 8-5, Shakopee (L) 4-11. Our record is officially 1-1 and we should expect to play against other 1-1 teams next SUN, MAYBE a 2-0 team too. We'll see; not all teams have posted their scores yet.

Because next weekend is Labor Day weekend (ALREADY?!?), we'll be able to fit in 4 practices before our next games on SUN, SEP 8. Yes, we'll practice the evening of the first day of school. We've got 5 weeks of TUE/THU practices and 8 games before we finish the season with the Fall Ball State Tournament at the end of SEP.

Please continue to use the RSVP email notifications (those come out 2 days before practices/games) to let me know who's coming/not coming; your texts work too. Thanks! Coming up for the next 2 weeks:

    • 5:30-6:00 pitchers/catchers, 6:00-8:00 full team practice
    • we have more pitchers than we have catchers- would love help catching pitches for 2-3 pitchers (including Lily, so I can supervise)
  • THU 8/29, Practice, 5:00-8:00, Miller 4
    • 5:00-6:00 pitchers/catchers; P/C will work with P/C trainers Kelsey and AnneMarie
      • pitchers must have someone to catch for them; I've got to catch for Lily
    • 6:00-8:00 full team practice
    • possible scrimmage with the other 12U team for game situation practice
  • TUE 9/3, Practice, 5:30-8:00, Miller 4
    • 5:30-6:00 pitchers/catchers, 6:00-8:00 full team practice
    • we have more pitchers than we have catchers- would love help catching pitches for 2-3 pitchers (including Lily, so I can supervise)
  • THU 9/5, Practice, 5:30-8:00, Miller 7 (shared field practice)
    • 5:00-6:00 pitchers/catchers; P/C will work with P/C trainers Kelsey and AnneMarie
      • pitchers must have someone to catch for them; I've got to catch for Lily
    • 6:00-8:00 full team practice on one half of the field
      • we'll alternate using the infield or we'll share the infield; by the end of the evening, we'll probably scrimmage
  • SUN 9/8 Games

Thanks! We're making good strides!
