Head Coach Background and ACE Certification
It is league policy to restrict adults from the dugout during games and tournaments. It is the head coach's responsibility to enforce this policy for the safety of all children. Adults who enter the dugout must have a background check on file with the EP Fastpitch Assocation.
To complete a background check and ACE certification:
- Go to registerusasoftball.com
- New Users: Click on Create Profile and then create account.
- Add data as needed
- Association Info
- Association = MN-Minnesota (not MN - Minneapolis)
- Group = JO (Youth) - JO
- League = JO

- At the bottom of the page, select your role in the Non-Admin Role Registrations section
- Head Coach

- Click [Submit]
At the bottom of the home plate page,
- Click on the ACE Education tab
- ​Beginning in the 2018 season, head coaches must complete the SafeSport courses prior to starting their ACE certification. Plan on additional time view watch videos, read and complete a quiz. When you complete a lesson, the text color of the lesson will change from red to green. Once you complete all 3 lessons, your annual ACE certification exam is available for "purchase"
- Verify all personal information for the background check and ACE certification, and submit payment
- Your ACE test will not be available until your background check has been cleared and SafeSport courses are completed.
- Once your background check has completed, send a screenshot confirmation to the EP Fastpitch softball directors
- If needed, follow the instructions from the "Coach/Parent Background Checks" bulletin, located below, to ensure that your name and clearance appear in the same screenshot
- Return to "HomePlate" and click on the ACE Education tab
- Activate your exam; when complete, send a screenshot confirmation to the EP Fastpitch softball Directors.

Coach/Parent Background Checks

To complete a background check
- Go to registerusasoftball.com
- New Users: Click on Create Profile and then create account.
- Association Info
- Association = MN-Minnesota
- Group = Girls Fastpitch
- League = Default
- Membership Type
- Coach (for assistant coaches), or Scorekeeper (or non-coach parent assistant)
At the bottom of the page,
- Click on the Background Check tab and click [Purchase]
- Verify all personal information and payment ($10)
After your background check has completed, take a screenshot of the screen (be sure that it includes your name and confirmation that your background check has passed. Email it as an attachment to the EP Fastpitch softball directors:

Don't know how to take a screenshot on a PC?
- Set the screen how you want it to look
- Press the [Prt Sc] key on your keyboard (actual lettering varies per keyboard)
- Dual-monitor users, be sure to press and hold [Alt]+[Prt Sc] to limit the screenshot to the current monitor only (otherwise you get both screens in the screenshot)
- Open Word or Paint and press [Ctrl]+[V] to insert the screenshot
- Save the file
- Create an email and send the file as an attachment
Concussion Awareness
Minnesota law requires all coaches and officials working with children 18 years old and younger to be trained in concussion management, and for information to be made accessible to all participating coaches, officials, youth athletes and their parents or guardians about the nature and risks of concussions, including the effects and risks of continuing to play after receiving a concussion and the protocols.

Upon completion of your concussion training, please send a screenshot of your certificate to the EP Fastpitch softball directors. It is necessary to complete concussion training once every 3 years, as new techniques for recognizing concussions may change as advancements in modern medicine are discovered.
SportEngine username
Minnesota Softball and the Big West League use the SportsEngine League Management software platform on their website to manage the league. Coaches are required to use a SportsEngine username to log into the Minnesota Softball website to perform maintenance on :
- Manage Team Information
- Coach Contact Information
- Official Rosters for the season
- Game Schedule Maintenance (changes in date, time or location)
- Game Score Reporting
Use this link for instructions on how to create a SportsEngine (SportNGIN) Username. Once created, give your new SportsEngine Username to the EP Fastpitch Directors so that they may report it to the Big West League to match coach info to your team.
